Nearly every day in the media a "victim" is telling their story about being deceived out of their dollars by the unscrupulous.
They've invested in what, in hindsight, are obvious scams from dodgy franchises, to non - existent gold mines, unworkable leases and - saints preserve us - accessing lost millions in foreign bank accounts.
The truth is that whilst there are some genuine cons (excuse the oxymoron), most mistakes are avoidable if the buyer asks just a few more pertinent questions and insists
on some by tangible, validated evidence.
The message is that we need to develop a culture of personal research and accountability in our business dealings and not delegate by abdication to those who present themselves as experts.
Like Dorothy in the Wizard of OZ, we must be curious enough to do our own research and bold enough to pull back the curtain and discover if there is substance behind the theatre.
