Your Spring booster shot of motivation and support

Hello. Welcome again to READY SET GOAL! and a special Spring shot of motivation to keep you on track and in motion.

In this issue:

  • Simplify Your Life And Your Goals with a Spring Clean –  Overcoming Overwhelm - But how?  (Tips for Spring Cleaning your Goals)

Simplify your Life with a Spring Clean for your Goals

Do you sometimes suffer from the "I'm scared I might miss something" or "I have to contribute to everything" syndromes? I know I did earlier this year.  I'd fallen into the trap of believing that if I didn't go to this function or join that committee, I'd miss out on an important opportunity.

The result was overload, overwhelm and exhaustion.   I became buried under commitments to myself and other people, lost sight of my goals, hardly saw my family, and was in danger of ending up like the infamous Woozle Woozle bird (email me if you haven't heard of the Woozle Woozle bird).

Then a family death brought me to a screaming mental and physical halt.    It was a reminder that life is finite. I realised I had been concentrating so much on what I wanted to HAVE that I had lost sight of how I wanted my life to BE.   I wanted life to be simple, enjoyable and struggle free NOW, not in the mists of a "someday when I've done this, or achieved that".

It was time to simplify my life and my goals.  I resigned from this organization and that committee. I threw out all my goals, and all my "should's" and "aught's" so I could create a clean and empty space to consider what I really wanted and hankered after.   Must admit it felt really strange owning up to being a goals coach with no goals.

Yet it worked.   From that clean and uncluttered mental space, with a new freedom to choose, I was able to reassess my values and then set and plan new or revised goals that had me in the flow of life rather than the struggle.

So my main tip for this issue is:  if you are feeling frazzled and frustrated and in overwhelm, I'd really recommend you allow yourself to stop and reassess just what is really important in your life and how you want your life and your days to BE.

If you are in overwhelm with a list of too many goals, big and small, use these Spring Clean Your Goals tips to get you back on track:

  • Prioritize just three big goals that are the most important to you to achieve first (and this may be just one goal).
  • Check those goals against the Ready Set Goal! SMARTIY criteria to make sure they are strong and powerful and right for you.
  •  Observe which of your other small goals are really part of the action steps or mini-goals towards the big goals and list them as part of your action plan for that goal.
  •  Re-schedule or throw out those less important goals.  (Have a goals book where you write all those future goals and ideas down.  This will get them out of your head for now but with the confidence that they are not lost.)
  • Check that your goals are in harmony - all going in the same overall direction and not pulling against each other.
  • Consider engaging me as your coach and be personally supported through this process to new clarity and motivation!
